We see plenty of contemporary video recordings from cellphone footage and police cameras of Black people being harassed and even physically harmed by police officers during traffic stops. The documentary is based on Soren’s book “Driving While Black: African American Travel and the Road to Civil Rights,” and she’s included in the film as an expert voice. Informative, infuriating and almost shockingly of the moment even when addressing issues 400 years ago, it is two hours well spent. The film is a different kind of vehicle - one that allows for a closer examination of racism in America, on the roads and off. ![]() ![]() ![]() Otis and his family move into Canterville Chase, an English country house, despite warnings from Lord Canterville that the house is haunted. The title itself has had an enormous effect on ways of thinking about poetry. The book, beautifully and delicately illustrated by Blake, has been vastly influential, determining, for example, the opening poems in William Butler Yeats’s book The Rose (1893), which contrasts “The Song of the Happy Shepherd” with “The Sad Shepherd:” (The second Song of Innocence is called “The Shepherd.”) The contrast, and the very idea of the song, harkens back to Blake.
